HAPPY CLIENT

"I've known Jim Lowrey for almost 30 years and have always respected him as the most knowledgeable and experienced person I knew when it came to cars. Buying cars through Jim has made the process literally a breeze!  Even more important to me than his expertise is his honesty and integrity. I would recommend Jim to anyone wanting to buy or sell a car!"  MG, AL

Ann from Cincinnati says:

I worked with Jim to buy a Porsche 911 Cabriolet; I’d been looking for a Cabriolet in great condition for about a year and contacted Jim. Working with him via text, email and phone was simple and streamlined plus he’s a very interesting guy who is genuinely passionate about cars and about a straight forward sales process. I’d never purchased a car sight-unseen from an out of state seller — so I had some reservations, however Jim said all the right things, produced all the right support and responded quickly. The entire process took less time than I originally thought it might and the car exceeded my expectations. Thank you again, Ann (Cincinnati, Ohio)

HAPPY CLIENT

I have been a hot rod guy since a kid. One car I have always wanted was a 1936 Chevrolet 5 Window Coupe that was ready to go. I found one that was close to my dream car on Classic Car Store’s website. All steel body built from the ground up as a Pro-Touring car and built right. Jim was very helpful, specific and told me the good and bad about the car. I decided to buy it, bought a one-way ticket from Oklahoma to Birmingham, AL. I hoped the car was what it was supposed to be. Jim picked me up at the Airport and took me to the Owner, an elderly gentleman in a small country town. The car was everything represented, much nicer than I expected. After getting the banking handled I made a road trip back home to Oklahoma stopping and seeing a couple of friends on the way back. Not one problem with the car. Overall it was an excellent experience, especially when you are buying a car from photos and getting information from someone you don’t know. If you want a straight shooter when buying a Classic Car, Jim is the man. Thank you, DF-OK

Sheryl from Birmingham says:

Jim did an absolutely fabulous job from start to selling of my husbands car. He took, what was a very stressful situation for me, and made it very easy. He handled every detail as if he knew my husband personally. I highly recommend his services for selling your prized vehicles.(Sheryl, Birmingham, AL)

Porsche 917 Steve McQueen Drove In ‘Le Mans’ Sells For $14M At Pebble Beach

by Pat McAssey

Considering the 917 was the race car that secured Porsche its first 24 Hours of Le Mans victory, it’s unsurprising that one recently became the most expensive Porsche ever sold. But what might surprise you is the 917 that broke the record never actually raced at Le Mans. That’s because it was the car that Steve McQueen drove in the 1971 film “Le Mans.” Gooding & Company sold a 1970 Porsche 917, Chassis No. 917-024, for $14,080,000 on Friday at the Pebble Beach Auctions. The car was expected to fetch between $13 million and $16 million. The car that previously held the crown of the most expensive Porsche was a 1982 Porsche 956, which also was sold by Gooding & Company in 2010. That 956 went for $10,120,000, roughly $4 million less than the 917. Porsche produced just 25 examples of the 917, several of which were used during the making of ” Le Mans.” The movie featured footage that was shot at racing speed on the streets of Le Mans, as well as clips from the actual 1970 24 Hours of Le Mans that was captured using camera cars.

Chassis No. 917-024, sold in the iconic Gulf racing livery, reportedly was used both in the scripted action sequences, and as a camera car that filmed the race. The bodywork still features the mounts that were used for the camera equipment. This is the second car from one of McQueens movies to make headlines in the last year. In March, a Ford expert confirmed that the Mustang from “Bullitt” that was presumed lost had been discovered in Mexico. What’s more, the sale of the 917 comes after Porsche recently announced it will shut down its highly successful Le Mans Prototype 1 program.
